The text of Panarmenian Declaration on the 100th Commemoration of the Armenian Genocide was handed over to the UN Secretary-General

On March 11, Permanent Representative of Armenia Zohrab Mnatsakanyan was received by the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

Welcoming Ambassador Mnatsakanyan, the UN Secretary-General commended active involvement of Armenia in international multilateral processes as well as the support of Armenia to the works of the UN Office in Yerevan.

Expressing gratitude for the reception, Ambassador handed to the UN Secretary-General the text of Panarmenian Declaration on the 100th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, translated into all official languages of the UN. Ambassador Mnatsakanyan highlighted that the Declaration is aimed at the strengthening and development of the universal fight against genocide.

Ambassador Mnatsakanyan briefed the UN Secretary-General about the events, dedicated to the Centennial of Armenian Genocide, stressing their importance for reinforcing the consistent efforts targeted at the prevention of genocide and raising the issue of its unacceptability. Ambassador Mnatsakanyan praised the UN’s key role in the processes of preventing genocide and stressed organization’s significance as an international structure based on universal and moral values.

Zohrab Mnatsakanyan reflected on “Aurora” Humanitarian Award officially launched in New York on March 10 within the framework of the “100 LIVES” initiative, dedicated to the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide.

During the meeting the two exchanged views on regional issues as well as the possibilities to resolve them.

Negotiation process of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict was touched upon.

UN Secretary-General reaffirmed the UN continuous support to the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh NK conflict within the Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship and on the basis of their proposals.

Ambassador Mnatsakanyan highlighted the importance of confidence-building measures, particularly, Co-Chairs’ proposals on the withdrawal of snipers from the Line of Contact as well as the creation of investigation mechanisms on cease-fire violations. The Ambassador voiced concern over Azerbaijan’s failure to accept the proposals of the Co-Chairs, stressing the importance of appropriate reaction by the international community. In this context, he recalled press-release, published by the OSCE Minsk group Co-Chairs on January 27, and its targeted messages.
