Ambassador Vahan Hovhannisyan died

After a long and severe illness, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia in Germany Vahan Hovhannisyan died.

Vahan Hovhannisyan was born on August 16, 1956 in Yerevan.

In 1963 – 1973 he studied and graduated from Yerevan School # 55 after A. Chekhov.

In 1978, he graduated from the Moscow State Pedagogical University with degrees in history and archaeology.

From 1978-1980 he served in the Soviet army.

In 1980-1989 he worked as a research assistant and later as a head of the scientific research division in the Erebuni Museum.

In 1989 he worked as a research assistant in the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography of the Academy of Sciences.

In 1990-1992 he participated in Artsakh liberation movement.

In 1990-1992 he was a member of the Armenia Central Committee of the Armenia Revolutionary Federation and from 1992 1995 was a member of ARF bureau.

In 1998-1999 was an advisor to the President of the Republic of Armenia and head of the Commission on Issues of Local Self-Government.

In 1999-2003 he was a deputy in the NA, where he was Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Defense, National Security and Internal Affairs; he was also a member of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Faction.

In 2003-2007 Vice-President of the National Assembly. He was also a member of both the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Faction and its bureau.

In 2008 was nominated and participate in the presidential election as a party candidate.

In 2010-2012 Head of the RA delegation in the EURONEST Parliamentary Assembly.

In 2012-2013 Deputy in the NA, member of the Standing Committee on Health Care, Maternity and Childhood; Standing Committee on Defense, National Security and Internal Affairs; member of temporary commission on ethics, member of Armenian-German inter-parliamentary friendship group, member of the RA Delegation in the EURONEST Parliamentary Assembly.

In 2012 Deputy Head of EURONEST Parliamentary Assembly.

On 7 June, 2007 he was elected Vice-President of the National Assembly and on February 28, 2008 he resigned.

On 28 December, 2013, by the decree of the RA President, Vahan Hovhannisyan was appointed to the post of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of The Republic of Armenia to the Federal Republic of Germany.

Author of more than 30 scientific papers on Archeology and Ancient History. Delivered lectures on archeology and political science at the YSU.
