The Citizen’s Letter to the Ombudsman

Facebook user Karen Harutyunyan has published an open letter on his account to the Human Rights Defender Karen Andreasyan:

Recently I was very positive towards your activities, mental abilities, and your person. I even tried to support, to legitimate the structure, which you leads, notwithstanding the fact that I objectively think that it cannot be independent or without any leverages. But what happened on 10 December made me excited.

It is really symbolic that on the Human Rights Day the guarantors of the legal system: the chief of Police presents the Bible to the Human Rights defender jut on the Human Rights day, and thus simply destroying the legal, philosophical sense of the human rights, contrasting it with the clerical, to which you had to give the proper interpretation, but unfortunately, you accepted the senselessness of your work it with great delight. The rest, appraisal words in the logic of “a step forward”, which refer to the decorative improvements (which of course I do not deny), ignoring the rights, made your structure a marionette.

On the same day, the statement of the deputy chief of police followed, who announced that he should cut the ears of the person exercising the right of freedom of speech, like a dog’s ears. This is not only symbolic, but also practical considering the attacks on freedom fighters. It seems that your logical reply, to demand his resignation, did not follow it. Also, already traditional ties of the police and the chiefs of police with the criminal world (apparently according to religious traditions as it is quite the opposite of the legal). Recently there were high profile publications about these, which were followed by the pressure on journalists. Well, politically motivated attacks on the civilians, damaging the cars are probably common. Not to mention the tradition of pressure on freedom of peaceful assembly that is already usual. In addition the biased justice is the fault of the Turks.

I regret that the Ombudsman’s office became so devalued. The “constructive” roundtable discussions should be in a completely different field.

Citizen of the Republic of Armenia,
Karen Harutyunyan
