What will the Participation in Jessup Moot Court Competition Give to Students?

The national qualification round of the Philip Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition of  2014-2015 will be held in English this year. Iravaban.net talked to AYLA Board member, advocate Arpine Yeghikyan on this amendment and the importance of the competition. Arpine Yeghikyan took part in the competition in the years 2006-2009. She was first involved as an assistant and then coordinator.

Mrs. Yeghikyan said that the idea to hold the national round of the competition in English had been discussed for a long time. “There was a concern that there wouldn`t be many students with language conduct. I think if we had shifted to English sooner, it would have become an incentive for students to work on themselves in terms of knowledge, and they would have shown better results in the international rounds”.

According to our interlocutor the participation in the competition first of all will give a wide range of knowledge in the field of international law. “It also gives experience in acting at the court, even if not real. Besides, it gives opportunity to communicate with practitioners, establish connections, and using them correctly, as the judges of the competition – the jury members are always ready to help the students, but not during the competition”.
