The European Union has made Azerbaijan responsible for respecting the rights and safety of the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh and said it will take action against Azerbaijan if they are oppressed, EU diplomacy chief Josep Borrell said.
“Azerbaijan is responsible for respecting the rights and ensuring the security of the Armenians of Karabakh, including the right to live in their own homes without being subject to threats or discrimination. The forced displacement of civilians using military or other means will be met with a decisive response from the EU. The European Union is ready to take appropriate measures in case of further deterioration of the situation,” Borrell said in a statement.
Earlier, more than 60 members of the European Parliament called on the EU to impose sanctions against Azerbaijan due to the past operation in Nagorno-Karabakh.
