“I have always been involved in practical law, human rights activities. Then I decided to establish a company and carry out my activities that way. We started with two people: it was me and I had an assistant who was one of my former students, by the way, I have been teaching in different educational institutions for about 20 years. We were able to withstand the hard times, the COVID and the war. Now we are trying to further develop, we have already expanded, our staff has expanded even more”, Atovmyan said.

“Atovmyan” Law and Consulting Company provides various types of legal services: court representation, provides legal advice to legal entities and individuals, prepares various documents, supports citizens in matters related to the formulation of Notarial transactions, in matters related to the registration of civil residence acts, provides consulting in matters related to accounting. Also organizes professional legal courses for young lawyers. It deals with the legal issues of foreign citizens as well.

He notes that at the moment they have more than a hundred different cases, several dozen of which are in the courts, some criminal cases are in the stage of preliminary investigation.

“We have a number of cases that we are working on now and we should present these cases to the court in the near future. Those cases are both in Yerevan, as well as in the marzes, it is true, we still do not have a regional representation, but we carry out activities related to the marzes. Thanks to our diligence and teamwork, we are trying to achieve more,” he said.

According to Marat Atovmyan, more than 95 percent of their cases have been successful.

The lawyer also referred to the existing problems in the judicial system, stressing the issue of deadlines.

“Sessions are scheduled quite late, cases are processed quite late, there are cases when I receive a notification a few days after the court session and it turns out that the session fails, there are such problems as well,” he said.

Atovmyan also offers solutions to these problems, for example, alternative justice or extrajudicial mechanisms should be developed.

“For example, cases related to child care or cases of visiting a child. In my opinion, it would be better that such cases are not examined by the court, but to change the status of guardianship bodies, to create a professional, permanent structure consisting of various specialists who would deal with similar cases. As a recommendation, perhaps it would be right to create specialized labor courts that would examine labor disputes, both in the private sector and in cases with the state system. In this way, we will relieve both the Administrative Court and the Courts of General Jurisdiction. Such legislative and institutional solutions can take place,” Atovmyan said.
