Tigran Hakobyan, Chairman of the Commission on TV and Radio, writes on his Facebook page:
“Soon the National Assembly will elect the 7th member of the Commission on TV and Radio.
A number of media outlets are persuading the public that, according to the so-called D’Hondt’s Formula, this member must be elected from among the candidates nominated by the opposition factions.
That is not the case. The aim of D’Hondt’s well-known Formula is to fix the ratio of political forces that won mandates as a result of the National Assembly elections in the leadership of the parliament. In case of formation of other bodies (CC, CEC, RA, etc.) the legislation does not envisage the application of that formula. Moreover, the application would be illogical and would devalue the whole meaning of the activity of our Commission, and the concept, as the members of the Commission on TV and Radio should not be partisan, should not be involved in politics, should not make decisions in the interests of this or that party…
Therefore, my request to the media. When talking about the nomination and election of a member of Commission on TV and Radio, do not mention D’Hondt’s Formula,” he wrote.
