On 16 November, the RA Minister of Defense Suren Papikyan had a telephone conversation with the Russian Defense Minister, Army General Sergey Shoigu.

During the telephone conversation, the RA Minister of Defense presented the situation in the north-eastern part of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border after the provocation of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces on 16 November. Suren Papikyan emphasized that the invasion of the units of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces in the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia in 2020. It is a gross violation of the provisions of the 9 November trilateral statement, it endangers the whole negotiation process.

The Russian Defense Minister expressed readiness to make every effort to end hostilities, return prisoners of war and resolve the situation.
