RA Ministry of Defense issued a statement:
“As of the night of 4 August and 10:00 in the morning, the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border is relatively stable, no significant violations of the ceasefire regime have been registered.
The units of the RA Armed Forces fully control the border situation.”
It should be reminded that the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border has been tense in recent days.
On 28 July, at around 3:40 am, the units of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces attacked the Armenian positions located in the north-eastern direction of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. Fighting operations took place in the section from Sotk to Verin Shorzha, intensive skirmishes took place. The Armenian side had three victims and five wounded. As of 11:40 am, the Ministry of Defense announced that an agreement had been reached through the mediation of the Russian Peacekeeping Forces Command to restore the ceasefire on the Armenian-Azerbaijani line of contact in the north-eastern direction.
On 29 July, at around 3:00 am, in the Gegharkunik section of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, in the direction of Karvachar, the units of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, violating the ceasefire agreement reached the day before, again provoked by firing on Armenian positions. The fire was stopped after the response of the Armenian side. At around 08:40 the enemy opened fire again. One serviceman of the RA Armed Forces was wounded.
On 31 July, at 06:30, the units of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces opened fire on the Armenian positions located in the Yeraskh section of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and tried to carry out fortification works using engineering equipment. After the retaliatory actions of the Armenian positions, the enemy’s fire was silenced, the fortification works were stopped.
On 2 August, from 11:20 to 12:00, the enemy violated the ceasefire on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border in Yeraskh, and at 14:30 in the village of Kut, opening fire from different caliber firearms in the direction of the Armenian positions.
The RA Ministry of Defense stated that the military-political leadership of Azerbaijan bares the entire responsibility for the aggravation of the situation.
