EU Special Representative on Border Tensions

EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Toivo Klaar wrote on his Twitter account that the European Union is concerned about the events on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and is ready to help. He in particular wrote, “The EU is Deeply worrying developments continue on Armenia Azervaijan state border. Reiterate our call for restraint and separation of forces & constructive engagement on border issues before new casualties are registered. EU stands ready to assist the sides.”

For several days now, shots have been heard in the Yeraskh border area. In this part of the border between Armenia and Nakhichevan, the enemy regularly violates the ceasefire regime. On the evening of 19 July, the Azerbaijani armed forces used grenades.

Earlier, we reported that in the late evening of 19 July, at 02:00, until 02:00, the Azerbaijani armed forces continued to fire on the Armenian positions located in the Yeraskh section of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border without using grenade launchers.

The head of Yeraskh community Radik Oghikyan, who was organizing the extinguishing of the fire that broke out in the area as a result of the actions of the Azeris, received a gunshot wound after several hours of intense skirmish.

The RA Armed Forces announces that it will not allow any change in the line of contact.

It should be reminded that in the evening of 19 July, starting from 18:40, the Azerbaijani armed forces fired on the Armenian positions located in the Yeraskh section of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border for several hours with different caliber firearms. Grenade launchers were used regularly. The situation remained tense as of 23:00.

The Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia warns again that any border provocation will be met with a harsh response, and the entire responsibility for the aggravation of the situation falls on the military-political leadership of Azerbaijan.
