Today, on 14 July, in the Constitutional Court, it is already the 6th day that the examination of the applications for disputing the results of the 20 June extraordinary elections continues.
The parties make final speeches.
Acting Minister of Justice Rustam Badasyan made a concluding speech.
“Arguments that will be easily checked and immediately refuted in the High Court should not be presented in the High Court. Legitimate actions should not be presented as illegitimate; and on this basis argue that the election results should be declared invalid. In any case, one should not make insulting remarks in the Constitutional body against another Constitutional body,” the acting minister said.
Badasyan divided the applicants’ facts into two groups and said that the first group was completely outside the powers of the CC and should not be referred to. After listening to the defendants about the second group, and the adjacent defendants, he got the impression that the trial was over in terms of content. “The applicants constantly tried to present to the press that this was an exceptional volume. I saw an exception in terms of number of letters, sentence, number of lines, number of pages, but not in terms of content. Because they refuted all those arguments so clearly that the impartial observer had no doubts.”
At the end of his speech, referring to Davit Harutyunyan’s speech, during which the latter advised to watch the new Netflix TV series, Rustam Badasyan said:
“As for the new Netflix series, I would like to use a more classic film – Kusturica’s “Underground”, where for a long time people were lowered into bunkers, deceived about their status, subjected to various sufferings, robbed, and most importantly, demoralized, and on the stage of the bunkers speaks of noble values, of the homeland.”
It should be reminded that “Armenia”, “I have Honor”, “Awakening” and “Armenians’ Homeland” parties are disputing the election results. Their applications are considered in a single joint case.
Judge of the Constitutional Court Edgar Shatiryan has been appointed rapporteur on the case. The respondent is the CEC, the body that records the election results. Related defendants are the RA Prosecutor’s Office, the Police and the Television and Radio Commission.
