Today, on 12 July, during the examination of the applications to challenge the results of the 20 June extraordinary elections in the Constitutional Court, the representative of the Prosecutor’s Office Sevak Hovhannisyan said:
“The working group of the Prosecutor General’s Office, as a result of daily monitoring since its formation on 12 May, 2021, has examined 861 reports on alleged electoral crimes committed during the preparation and holding of extraordinary elections. Besides, as a result of the amendments to the RA Criminal Code, a significant part of electoral crimes turned from medium-gravity crimes into serious crimes.
He mentioned that 172 out of 861 reports referred to the circumstance to be done by the supporters of the “Armenia” Alliance, and the people close to the alliance in one way or another. 71 out of the mentioned 172 referred the corpus delicti of giving or receiving bribes. In 12 cases from the mentioned reports, criminal cases were initiated under different articles of the RA Criminal Code. And in 160 cases inspection actions were carried out, relevant protocols were drawn up and were left without consequences.
The number of reports on alleged electoral violations committed by supporters of the “I have the Honor” Alliance, people close to the alliance in one way or another was 57, of which 39 were related to giving or receiving bribes, on 17 of which criminal cases were initiated under different articles of the RA Criminal Code, and in 40 cases inspection actions were carried out, were left without consequences.
The number of reports of alleged electoral violations committed by supporters of the “Civil Contract”, persons affiliated with the Alliance in one way or another, was 84, of which 13 were related to giving or receiving bribes, in all 84 cases checks were carried out, were left without consequences.”
It should be reminded that “Armenia”, “I have the Honor”, “Awakening” and “ Armenians’ Homeland” parties are disputing the election results. Their applications are considered in a single joint case.
Judge of the Constitutional Court Edgar Shatiryan has been appointed rapporteur on the case. The respondent is the CEC, the body that records the election results. Related defendants are the RA Prosecutor’s Office, the Police and the Television and Radio Commission.
