In 2020, the Department for Confiscation of Property of Illicit Origin of the Prosecutor General’s Office launched an investigation into property belonging to 214 entities. The Minister of Justice Rustam Badasyan stated this at the sitting of the NA Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs at the presentation of the report on the process of implementation of the Government program for 2020 and the results.
Badasyan reminded that on 16 April, 2020, the Law on Confiscation of Property of Illegal Origin was adopted, as well as a package of laws on amendments to related laws. On 3 September, 2020, the Department for Confiscation of Property of Illicit Origin of the Prosecutor General’s Office was launched.
“From the time of its establishment until 31 December, the department received materials on 201 criminal cases related to 430 entities with possessions of possible property of illicit origin in criminal cases. As a result of the verification of the grounds for initiating an investigation, a decision was made to start an investigation into the property belonging to 214 of them,” the Minister said.
