Neither side will benefit from the clash, and the Armenian people will suffer in Artsakh and Armenia: “Citizen’s Decision” SDP

The “Citizen’s Decision” SDP executive body has issued a statement:

“Dear compatriots,

It should be noted that the Armenian military-political leadership was not able to resist the joint attack of Turkey, terrorist groups and the Azerbaijani army, which began on 27 September. How this happened will be clarified by the investigative body to be formed in the future, calling the guilty to account. We will pursue this. The tripartite statement on the ceasefire on 10 November came to prove that reality. We consider it necessary to emphasize that the legitimacy of the actions initiated by that statement raises certain questions from the point of view of international law, even when international structures and key states aimed at upholding the norms of international law have welcomed such an agreement and the actions arising from it.

The agreement reached between the parties increased the likelihood of a new war more than could have been imagined before the war. The situation is beyond the scope of the OSCE settlement, while the OSCE member states were given the international mandate to resolve the conflict. Even the territories of the Artsakh Republic, which have been Armenian throughout their history, continue to be occupied.

As a result of our contacts with state and political circles, we find that those circles do not have a solid idea of overcoming the created internal-external challenges.

This failure of the political leadership of the society poses a real threat that the situation will get out of control, armed clashes will start, which can in no way have a positive impact on the process around Artsakh, nor on the internal political life and future of Armenia.

The “Citizen’s Decision” party offers the two opposing parties formed in the domestic political field to take a step back from their most principled positions, not to lead the public to the inevitable bloody clash due to such developments.

Our blood has already been shed a lot.

In case of such readiness of the parties, the “Citizen’s Decision” party can do its best to meet the mediation commitment. Neither side will benefit from the clash, and the Armenian people will suffer in Artsakh and Armenia. There is still an opportunity to find a solution to the problem on the principle of constitutionality.

It is time to rethink our existence, to adopt real values such as justice, independence and solidarity. Our short-term future history must be made meaningful by tireless work for the benefit of the Republic of Armenia, each of its citizens, people whose hearts ache for a better Armenia, for a better world.

“Citizen’s Decision” CMC Executive Body

16 November, 2020.”
