“Yerevan will recognize the independence of Nagorno Karabakh if it becomes clear that Baku, which is backed by Turkey, will not go to the talks under any circumstances,” Armenian President Armen Sarkissian said in an interview with Kommersant on Sunday.
He noted that once Armenia “suspended” the process of recognizing Karabakh’s independence in order not to “complicate” the negotiation process on the settlement.
“In other words, the non-recognition of Armenia’s independence is connected only with the fact that the Armenian side wants to resolve the issue through peaceful negotiations. If there is no light, then, naturally, Armenia will recognize the independence of Karabakh. I would really like the light not to go out at the end of the tunnel,” Sarkissian said.
