Gagik Tsarukyan will be arrested

The Court of General Jurisdiction of the city of Yerevan, chaired by Judge Mnatsakan Martirosyan, decided to choose arrest as measure of restraint for the PAP leader Gagik Tsarukyan.

Tsarukyan will be arrested for 2 months.

Tsarukyan’s lawyer Samvel Dilbandyan stated this in a conversation with journalists.

According to him, the head of the PAP did not appear in court, he is currently in the NSS․ “The body conducting preliminary investigation did not present any new circumstance. Gagik Tsarukyan has not hindered the investigation of the case during these months. The court decision is groundless and illegal.”

It should be reminded that Prosecutor General Arthur Davtyan had submitted a motion to deprive Tsarukyan of his parliamentary immunity, which was met.

However, the Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan had rejected the motion of the NSS investigator to arrest Tsarukyan.

According to the decision of the court of first instance, there was a reasonable doubt. This decision was appealed by both parties. The prosecutor’s office demanded to overturn the decision of the court of first instance and arrest Tsarukyan, and the lawyers filed several complaints, one of which was that the case should be examined by the SIS according to the law. The Court of Appeal rejected the lawyers’ appeal, and partially upheld the prosecutor’s office’s appeal, overturning the decision of the first instance and sending it for a new examination.

Further Gagik Tsarukyan’s lawyer team and the Prosecutor General’s Office filed a cassation appeal. It became known that the Court of Cassation did not accept the parties’ complaints. It should be noted that several former NA deputies, including Abraham Manukyan, Vanik Asatryan and Sedrak Arustamyan, have the status of defendants in this criminal case.
