As of 11:00 am on 2 September, 4 new cases of alcohol poisoning were registered in Yerevan and in Armavir region, 1 of which resulted in death. Another victim, who was admitted to University Hospital No. 1, died on 1 September.
The Ministry of Health reported.
The total number of cases between 31 August and 2 September reached 27, of which 14 were fatal.
20 out of 27 cases (9 of which were fatal) were registered in Armavir region. Out of the remaining 11 cases of Armavir region, 9 are receiving treatment at Armenia RMC, 2 are discharged after medical examination. All of them used non-factory vodka obtained from the same place.
7 out of 27 cases registered in the republic were registered in Yerevan. An epidemiological examination revealed that these cases were not related to the events in Armavir. 5 of them are fatal, 1 is receiving treatment at No. 1 University Hospital, 1 – at Armenia RMC. Some of the victims used medical alcohol as a substitute for vodka, while epidemiological studies are underway to determine the type of alcohol used by the rest.
The Ministry of Health first announced on 1 September that we have 11 deaths, according to preliminary data, from “alcohol intoxication”. Later, the spokeswoman of the Ministry of Health informed that one of the deaths was registered for another reason.
The Investigative Committee urged all the citizens who had bought alcohol from Armavir resident Ashot Hovsepyan not to use it.
Notably, a criminal case has already been inquired into the incident.
