The court session on the case of Aram Gabrielyan, former head of the Department of Environmental Protection of the Ministry of Nature Protection of the Republic of Armenia, and Gohar Ghazinyan, expert on environmental issues, was held today, 29 June, in the Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan.
Aram Gabrielyan demands 100,000 AMD as compensation for the damage caused to honor and dignity, and 302,000 AMD as compensation for court costs.
The parties decided to negotiate and come to an agreement.
Speaking to Iravaban.net, Gohar Ghazinyan’s lawyer Anahit Sargsyan said that they would present the text of the denial to the plaintiff, stating that Gohar Ghazinyan did not pursue the goal of defaming Aram Gabrielyan’s honor.
“The text of our denial will not be that we have written something we want to deny, but that we have written something and we have meant it. Gohar Ghazinyan did not intend to tarnish Aram Gabrielyan’s reputation, she intended to increase the overriding public interest,” Gohar Ghazinyan’s lawyer said.
Aram Gabrielyan’s lawyer Karine Baghdasaryan mentioned that the court is doing everything possible for the parties to try to resolve the dispute amicably. “At the moment, there are peace talks between the parties, I think the talks will be positive,” the lawyer said.
Notably, Gohar Ghazinyan held a working discussion by e-mail. She raised the issue that there is an environmental problem related to the construction of small HPPs, and who was responsible for the formation of the legal field, the failure of which will result in the construction of HPPs in Armenia without passing a proper environmental expertise. In the letter, she noted that Mr. Gabrielyan had not performed the duties he was supposed to perform. As a result, the legal field in Armenia has remained incomplete, with the help of which HPPs are being built, which, instead of contributing to the protection of the natural environment, on the contrary, are damaging it. Mr. Gabrielyan considered it a slander against him and appealed to the court.
