Whether a person with mental disorders may refuse the medical treatment?

Usually, persons with mental disorders may be dangerous both for the public and themselves.

However, it should be considered that a person with mental disorders or his/her legal representative has a right to refuse suggested medical treatment or to interrupt it, except for the cases of application of compulsory measures of medical nature and involuntary (compulsory) hospitalization prescribed by the law.

A person or his/her legal representative refusing from the medical treatment should be explained of the possible consequences. The fact of the explanation is recorded in the medical documents and certified by the signature of the person refusing from the medical treatment or his/her legal representative and the psychiatrist.
