The Republican Party of Armenia expresses its deep concern concerning the initiation of a criminal case and motion on detention against the second president of the Republic of Armenia Robert Kocharyan.

This is stated in the statement of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA).

“The alleged accusation leaves only the impression of political persecution, and from a legal point of view it is absurd.

We consider the current situation a threat to Armenia’s democratic development and a blow to the processes of building a full-fledged rule of law state. The criminal case initiated by the political motives and the accusation jeopardize the constitutionality of the Republic of Armenia.

We consider fraudulent and artificial accusation of one of the key players in the victory of the Artsakh Liberation War, the former Supreme Commander-in-Chief, who showed unshakable persistence in the Artsakh issue as an attempt to silence the opponents of possible developments in Artsakh issue that are fundamentally different from the approaches that have existed over the years,” reads the statement.
