As we have informed, Gevorg Tosunyan, journalist of iravaban.net, was subjected to violence by persons in civilian clothes tonight. Advocate Yervand Varosyan expressed his opinion on the case.
“It is not the first case that the journalists are subjected to violence and this is done purposefully, the people using violence turn to that step by clearly realizing that the person standing in front of them is a journalist. Any unlawful and disproportionate violence used against any person is impermissible, but if the violence used against participants of peaceful meetings can be “justified” as a result of provocative clashes, with very unique police comments on public order, violence used against a journalist does not have any imaginable explanation. These are steps directed towards the implementation of professional duty using violence against a journalist
Violence used against the journalist performing professional duty are steps to hide reality and form the atmosphere of fear and at the same time threat and horror among the society.”
