As we had previously reported, Nubarashen penitentiary’s chief, Rubik Stepanyan had his duties temporarily suspended. The RA Department of Justice gave the following information to Iravaban.net regarding this matter:

“Department for Supervision of Lawfulness of the Enforcement of Sentences and other Compulsory Measures of the RA Prosecutor General’s Office and Prosecutors Office of Erebuni and Nubarashen Administrative Districts of Yerevan City based on the RA Law of “Arrested and Detained persons”, and the RA Government’s N 1546 Decision adopted on 3 August, 2016 on the inspection of the maintenance of the order in places of detention and corrective institutions, conducted an inspection in Nubarashen penitentiary. As a result of the inspection facts of the abuse of power by the officials were revealed.

A Criminal case was initiated on the fact under the requirements of Article 308, Part 1 of the RA Criminal Code. The materials of the case were sent to the RA Special Investigation Service for preliminary investigation.

By the decision of the prosecutor, the authorities of the Chief of “Nubarashen” Penitentiary have been temporarily terminated (until the investigation is completed).
