The first court hearing on the case of embezzlement of especially large amount of money from “Armbusinessbank” took place today at the Court of Appeals. Both the accusation and the defense side had appealed the decision of the First Instance Court.
Specifically, the prosecutor demanded to annul the judicial act against lenient punishment of the two women defendants. Edita and Gohar, in the case and to apply more severe punishment. It is due to note that the Court of the First Instance of Kentron and Nork-Marash administrative district (presiding judge Arshak Vardanyan) had applied Article 70 of the RA Criminal Code “Conditional Punishment” without serving the sentence in prison. The prosecutor demanded to apply 5 years of imprisonment against the women.
The First Instance Court had considered a number of important factors when ruling a lenient punishment. Specifically the fact that both women have minor children under their care, had no previous conviction and had confessed and cooperated with the investigation, for disclosure of the crime.
