At the National Assembly, during the discussions of the 2016 budget draft, president of Central Bank Arthur Javadyan was asked about the fact that although the Central Bank is running low-inflation policy, it does not have a favorable impact on economic growth.
In response to the question, Arthur Javadyan said the following: “Inflation is a disease that strikes the financially insecure segment of the population. Since we face a certain level of poverty which totals 30-33%, according to the studies of various international organizations. That is why it’s extremely important to ensure low level of prices.”
He mentioned that in order to reach long-term sustainable economic growth, it is necessary to ensure low inflation rate by controlling the prices of especially those important products that are mostly in the public spotlight, such as gas, electricity, grocery, bread, etc.
