Work Honestly and prevent Corruption: Training for Public Servants

Transparency and accountability, competence, ethics and prevention of corruption are the elements of integrity. And implementation of the first three conditions is essential for the prevention of corruption. Mr. Marat Atovmyan, Expert of the Armenian Lawyers’ Association, said today at a seminar for public servants.

Trainings on anti-corruption and integrity issues where held for the groups of community and civil workers of Yerevan City.

Marat Atovmyan presented examples of successful international experience which shows that a developed economy can be created from zero as a result of the honest work, minimizing corruption manifestations. Singapore can be a vivid example of this.

Notably, such trainings have already been conducted in Shirak, Lori, Syunik and Gegharkunik marzes. These trainings are held within the framework of the Open Government Partnership Action Plan. The Armenian Government and Armenian Lawyers’ Association conduct trainings on integrity and anti-corruption issues for about 200 public servants in Yerevan City as well as in Shirak, Lori, Gegharkunik and Syunik marzes.

As a result of cooperation with the Government, serious steps have been taken in the anti-corruption field over the past year. In particular, in the spring of last year, the Armenian Lawyers’ Association and the CSO’s Anti-Corruption Coalition of Armenia presented a roadmap for achieving success in the anti-corruption fight, consisting of six points.

The drafted legal documents were presented and as a result of the joint work illicit enrichment was criminalized, the Whistleblowers’ Institute on Corruption Crimes was introduced, the Institute of revealing the Beneficiary Owners was introduced partially, and the Anti-Corruption Preventive Body was created.
