Giorgio Napolitano, the former President of Italy, died at the age of 98. ANSA reported. He held the position of the Head of State in 2006-2015, after which he retired due to his age and left the position prematurely. He was 89 years old at that time.
It is reported that in recent years, he often had health problems. He underwent serious operations in 2018 and 2022.
Napolitano was in one of the clinics in Rome for several months, but in recent days his condition worsened, becoming extremely serious on Tuesday, 19 September. The next day, the Italian media reported that the politician was disconnected from the artificial lung ventilation device.
Napolitano was a member of the Italian Communist Party and participated in the Resistance during the war. In 2013, he became the first re-elected President in the history of the Republic of Italy.
