August 17 and 18 have been announced days of mourning in Armenia

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed a decision on 16 August, which states:

“Guided by Article 7, Part 5 of the Law on the Structure and Activities of the Government:

  1. In memory of the citizens who died as a result of the fire and explosion that occurred on the territory of Yerevan Canning Factory CJSC on 14 August, 2022, to declare mourning on 17-18 August 2022 in the Republic of Armenia.

Let’s remind that on 14 August, at 1:23 p.m., the National Crisis Management Center received an alert that an explosion and fire occurred in the “Surmalu” Shopping Center located at 15 Arshakunyats Street in Yerevan, as a result of which the three-story building partially collapsed.

The bodies of 16 people, including a pregnant woman and a young child, were taken out of the rubble in the area of ​​the explosion.

62 citizens applied to medical centers of Yerevan city, 7 of them continue to receive treatment, and the rest received appropriate medical care and were discharged.
