The US authorities hope that many sanctions against the Russian Federation will be lifted in the event of the termination of the Russian special operation in Ukraine, as well as the restoration of the sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence of the republic. A senior State Department representative stated on Friday at a briefing, TASS News Agency reports.

“I would just say that sanctions are not meant to be permanent,” she said, answering a question about the conditions for lifting restrictions. “They are a tool, and if we see the results that we are trying to achieve in terms of stopping the Russian aggression, restoration of independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, then, we hope, many of the tools that we use <…> will cease to be used.”

It should be reminded that on the morning of 24 February, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the launch of a special military operation in Ukraine, aimed at ensuring the security of the Donetsk and Luhansk republics, as well as removing the “Nazi regime” in Ukraine.

The United States and the European Union have described Russia’s move as a direct aggression by Russia against Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

The Verkhovna Rada has declared martial law in Ukraine.
