Ararat Mirzoyan responded to Azerbaijan’s proposal to sign a peace agreement

RA Foreign Ministers Ararat Mirzoyan and Sergey Lavrov met in Moscow.

Iravaban.net reports that during the briefing Mirzoyan referred to the need to sign a peace agreement proposed by Azerbaijan.

“In place of the leadership of Azerbaijan, I would focus on the implementation of the agreements reached on 9 November and 11 January.  There are no negotiations on a peace agreement now. If such talks ever start, the issue of the status of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic based on the principles of the OSCE Minsk Group will become part of them,” Mirzoyan said.

Notably various representatives of the Azerbaijani authorities regularly call on Armenia to sign a peace agreement.

According to Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, the conflict is settled․ “It does not mean, however, that all the issues have been resolved. Azerbaijan has repeatedly called on Armenia to sign a peace agreement. We continue to urge you to sign it. “

Bayramov stressed that the Armenian authorities must show political will.

“The political leadership of Armenia must understand that there is no alternative to good, neighborly relations. This is the best option today,” he said.

According to the latter, the proposal to normalize relations with Azerbaijan is relevant, but the Armenian side does not accept it.
