The Husband of Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip, has died

The husband of Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip, has died. This is posted on the Twitter page of the royal family.

At the time of his death he was in Windsor Castle.

Prince Philip was 99 years old; on 10 June he would have turned 100 years old.

Philip Mountbatten married Elizabeth II in 1947. He was a British naval officer, a member of the Greek and Danish royal family, the grandson of Queen Victoria. They met in 1939 and fell in love in 1943 during Elizabeth’s visit to the Dortmund Maritime College, where Philip was studying.

On the eve of his marriage to the princess, Philip received the title of Duke of Edinburgh.

A year later, in 1948, their first child, Prince Charles, was born, and on 15 August, 1950, their daughter, Princess Anna, was born.
