The US Ambassador to Turkey has been summoned to the Turkish Foreign Ministry following the adoption the Resolution on the Armenian Genocide

US Ambassador to Turkey David Sutterfield has been summoned to the Turkish Foreign Ministry following the adoption of the Armenian Genocide Resolution.

This was reported by TASS.

On 29 October, the US House of Representatives approved a sanctions package against Turkey and its financial sector in relation with Ankara’s military operations in northeast Syria and the purchase of Russian S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems.

In addition, the House of Representatives by majority vote approved a resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire. Such resolutions have been debated by Congressmen for decades, but have not been voted for. According to the US observers, these steps will lead to serious deterioration in US-Turkish relations.
