“Currently there is an increase in terms of the prevention of domestic violence,” Colonel Nelly Duryan, Head of the 3rd Unit of the Main Criminal Investigation Department of Armenian Police stated.

According to her, there is a clear statistics which allow carrying out targeted activities by analyzing the situation.

During the meeting with the journalists Mrs. Duryan reported that in 2015 two cases of trafficking have been registered.

According to the data published by her, the crimes committed by juveniles have decreased. Thus, in 2014, 335 offences have been committed by juvenile offenders, in 2015 the number of the offences was again 335, and the number of the committed crimes in 2015 was 385, and 389 in 2014.

The severe crime cases committed by the juveniles have also decreased. In 2014, two such cases were registered, and no such case was registered last year. The same is the situation in the case of the statistics of assaults. No case of assault was registered last year, and in 2014, four (4) such cases occurred.

Instead, the number of robberies have increased: 181 cases in 2014 and 195 cases in 2015.

Speaking about the domestic violence, Nelly Duryan, said that there is an increase in such cases. “784 cases of domestic violence were registered during the 12 months of 2015, and in 150 of them criminal cases have been initiated. 678 cases were registered in 2014, in relation to 76 of which criminal cases were initiated. The number has twice increased.”

According to Mrs. Duryan, in 2015 the cases of violence committed by husbands against the wives were 471, and in 2014 it was 410. There were 15 cases of violence committed by a wife against the husband in 2015, and 6 such cases were registered in 2014. 65 cases of violence against children were registered in 2015, as compared with 62 cases registered in 2014. And 106 cases of violence committed by children against their parents were registered both in 2014 and in 2015.
