People and Preferences in Baghramyan Avenue are Different, but the Objective is the same

The protest action against the electricity price hike stretches from the building of Constitutional Court till Saryan grove in Baghramyan Avenue.

People in one section of the Avenue are singing national songs and dancing national dances on the other side the rock sounds are heard, people are different and tastes are different as well.

There is also the age difference, Arthur and Artak did not want to be shot, only said that they are 15 and 17 years old, and are participating in the action since the morning. Why is the government going to raise the electricity tariff? They have no answer. “We do not care why, we will fight to hinder that increase happen,” said Artak.

68-year-old Armenuhi Ghazaryan is here since the morning, “I’m only going to feed my grandchild and I am coming back. I cannot stay here at night, because of health condition, but I am coming and going periodically.”

Mrs. Armenuhi is confident that the rise electricity prices is due to the corruption that exists in the sphere, “Corruption is obvious, it cannot be described otherwise, because the owner of such a large structure as ENA in our republic could not allow abuses if there wasn’t the support of some officials,” – she said.

Lawyer Arar Karagyozyan, member of the Armenian Young lawyers Association sees corruption the sphere as well. We spoke with him about the incidents that happen during the action. Ara said that the police do not want to remove from the area the persons who used alcohol.

However, no matter how different are the people here, they told us that their goal is one – not to allow the rise in energy price and to make the government more accountable.
