Today, the government confirmed that the working day on 6 April, 2015 is shifted to Saturday on 11 April, 2015.
There was a long discussion before that. First of all, David Harutyunyan, the Minister – Chief of Staff, mentioned that this issue of declaring the Memorial days of visiting the cemeteries of dead people not working, has become a serious topic of discussion for the society. “There are exclusively different opinions about this question, there are people who are for, and there are many who are against, and they consider that in today’s economic conditions our country does not need to define such a working schedule. Especially people, who work in large organizations and deal with international institutions, are against, because Mondays are working days in the whole world and Saturdays are not, and in such conditions their work on Saturdays becomes ineffective”, Mr. Harutyunyan said.
Taking into account all these circumstances, the Prime Minister ordered to carry out studies with the Armenian Apostolic Church for the executive to make well-grounded decisions later on. “Taking into account that last year all the Memorial days were considered not working days, we decided to continue like that this time as well, until the acceptance of the final decision”, David Harutyunyan said.
In this regard, David Harutyunyan also invited a representative of church who insisted that the Memorial days should be left in order to give people the opportunity to visit cemeteries not on the account of their work.
The Prime Minister also mentioned that IT specialists are especially concerned about the question, and they are definitely against not working on Mondays because of “Merelots”. Hovik Abrahamyan said that since 1 January, 2015 Armenia is a member of Eurasian Economic Union, and in the Union Mondays are not considered as not working days because of “Merelots”.
