VivaCell-MTS calls its subscribers

VivaCell-MTS calls its subscribers to be cautious about calls coming from unknown numbers. Iravaban.net learned this from the Company.

VivaCell-MTS warns about a telephone fraud that involves calls from 370 area code, and calls on its subscribers to abstain from returning calls to any unknown number with area codes.

Most of the calls perpetrated from the area code 370, were made at night hours, using robodialers, and then disconnected, thereby arousing the call-recipients’ curiosity and enticing them to return an international call to a premium number, incurring them international dialing rates. The “dial and disconnect” calls using the area code, were placed from 10 different numbers.

In order to be protected from unwanted calls, the Company, as usually, recommends its subscribers to abstain from returning calls to unknown international numbers. There is usually no reason to call back missed calls from unknown numbers, regardless of the area code from which they were originated.

Upon receiving inquiries from its subscribers, VivaCell-MTS has taken necessary steps and blocked its subscribers’ calls to those numbers, after all of the numbers have been identified. It’s necessary to note that unlike other forms of telephone fraud, tracking and identifying the sources of the calls originated from international area codes is quite difficult and time-consuming. Advances in technology allow the fraudsters to call from numbers with international area code prefixes, thus making it difficult to detect, based on statistical analysis, if the calls are unwelcome. Even after certain numbers are detected and blocked, they can be replaced by another range of numbers.
