Today, the regular court trial on Hayk Kyureghyan’s case took place in the Court of General Jurisdiction of Kentron and Nork-Marash Administrative Districts of Yerevan.
At the beginning of the court session the defendant’s attorney Angela Hakobyan announced that Hayk Kyureghyan had written a letter to the court. At one of the previous court hearing Judge Armen Bektashyan had applied sanction against the defendant for disrespectful attitude towards the court (Hayk Kyureghyan refused to stand up in the court), and banned him for 10 hours from attending the court hearings.
Today in the letter publicized in the courtroom the defendant refused the services of the public defender. Angell Hakobyan read the letter and mentioned that she refuse to assume Hayk Kyureghyan’s defense in court. After this statement some citizens applaud in the court room. The judge expelled them from the courtroom.
Today’s court hearing was postponed, and appointed on 27 February. The judge announced that Hayk Kyureghyan’s presence will be required.
For information: on 12 July 2014 shots were fired in front of the same court building, during the hearing of the case Shant Harutyunyan and Friends. Hayk Kyuregyan had climbed up on one of the cars parked there, shouted and fired shots from a pneumatic “Makarov” pistol in the direction of the policemen.
