The Convict is on a Hunger Strike demanding to be taken to the Hospital for Convicts

Convict of “Nubarashen” Penitentiary of the RA Ministry of Justice, convict Hakob Nazaryan had gone on a hunger strike. Kima Kakoyan, the convict’s mother informed this.

She said that her son has a mental illness, 3 months ago he was moved to the prison hospital, but was discharged in January. “He cannot stay a large area with lots of people. He began a hunger strike demanding a review of his case. He also demands to take him to the hospital for convicts,” Kima Kakosyan said.

Hakob Nazaryan was sentenced in 2012 for a number of robberies.

Mr. Gor Ghlechyan, the Press Secretary of the Penitentiary explained that Hakob Nazaryan was discharged from the convicts’ hospital on 20 January. “He was taken to the mass cell. The doctors consider he can continue treatment there. At this moment the convict does not need inpatient treatment or psychiatric examination,” Mr. Ghlechyan said and added that Hakob Nazaryan had gone on hunger strike on 26 January, with the intention to return to the hospital of convicts.

Mr. Ghlechyan also said that on the instruction of Arthur Osikyan, the Head of Penitentiary Service of the RA Ministry of Justice the health condition of the convict will be examined, after which the decision of taking him to the hospital of convicts or not will be considered.
