ECHR Judgment may be an important Precedent for Armenia: Levon Martirosyan

The Arguments which the Armenian side made yesterday at ECHR are quite strong, Member of Parliament. Lawyer Levon Martirosyan thinks.

“We base on the historic facts. According to the Lower Court there is no general consensus, whether the Armenian Genocide had taken place or not. In our opinion, the consensus actually exists, because many countries have adopted Armenian Genocide on the level of a bill or statement. If desired, each court and in case of a fair trial, and the display of good will, may be able to recognize what happened in 1915 as Genocide” the lawyer said and added, “Another question is when speaking about the contradiction between the provisions of the European Convention. At the same time the right to freedom of expression is an established right.”

According to Mr. Martirosyan, a few months later, the verdict will be released, which can be significant for our country. “In case of a favorable result It may be an important precedent for Armenia,” the lawyer said.
