A preliminary investigation of the criminal case was instituted with regard to the case of receiving a bribe and bribe intermediation

A preliminary investigation of the criminal case instituted with regard to the case of receiving a bribe and bribe intermediation under Part 2 of Article 311 and Part 1 of Article 312 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia has ended in the Special Investigation Service of the Republic of Armenia.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Vardan Tsaturyan, the Junior Specialist of the Security Protection Department of “Vanadzor” Criminal-Executive Institution, on March 31, 2014 at about 9 PM received a bribe in the amount of 40.000 AMD from an individual unidentified by the case through Masis Martirosyan, a Third Class Specialist of the Security Protection Department of the same Criminal-Executive Institution, identified as a mediator in Vanadzor city, for committing an apparent illegal act in favour of the individuals introduced by the bribetaker, i.e. handing over the prohibited mobile phones to the prisoners of the above institution. He also handed five mobile phones and other related accessories packed with a sticky ribbon.
Vardan Tsaturyan kept the said money in his apartment. As for the package with the mobile phones and the related accessories the next day he by preliminary concealing them underneath his uniform jacket entered into the area of “Vanadzor” Criminal-Executive Institution, but he failed to hand them over to the prisoners of the institution, since as a result of the examination conducted by the employees of the same institution the above mobile phones and the related accessories were confiscated from him, whereas the sum of 40.000 AMD which was concealed in his apartment, was voluntarily produced by him for examination.
It should be reminded that Vardan Tsaturyan, the employee of the Security Protection Department of “Vanadzor” Criminal-Executive Institution of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia was charged in accordance with Part 2 of Article 311 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia, whereas Masis Martirosyan, the employee of the Security Protection Department of the same Criminal-Executive Institution was charged in accordance with Part 2 of Article 313 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia.
The investigator who has accomplished the preliminary investigation forwarded the criminal case together with the indictment to the prosecutor in charge of exercising a judicial control for the approval and referral thereof to the court.

Note: The suspect or the accused of the alleged offence is deemed innocent unless his or her innocence is proved by virtue of the effective court verdict in the manner prescribed by the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Armenia.
