Hide the Rosary: The Judge to the Former Mayor of Yerevan

On 22 January, the court session in the case of former Mayor of Yerevan Yervand Zakharyan, former Head of the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning of the Yerevan Municipality Arsen Lalayants and Armen Yeritsyan, chaired by judge Vahe Dolmazyan, was held in the Anti-Corruption Court.

According to the accusation, In the period of  2003-2009, Yervand Zakharyan, during his tenure of the Mayor of Yerevan, he exceeded his official powers, which carelessly caused serious consequences, and also, using his official position, looted particularly large-sized property in a wasteful manner.  

According to Iravaban.net , at the beginning of the session, the court confirmed the authority of the representative of Yerevan community. The latter asked for time to familiarize himself with the accusation, Vahe Dolmazyan satisfied the petition.

During the session, the attorney of Arsen Lalayants presented a petition as well. He asked to allow his client to leave RA for a few days.

Public Prosecutor Lilit Shirinyan stated that she is not against the defendant leaving the borders of the Republic of Armenia, but he must present evidence that will prove his need to participate in the mentioned food exhibition.

During the discussion of the issue, the presiding judge reprimanded Yervand Zakharyan. “Maybe it’s a habit, but I do not know the literary name of the thing in your hand, hide the rosary.”

The discussion of Arsen Lalayants’ petition continued, after which the judge granted it. The session was adjourned and scheduled for 2 February.
