Valya Mehrabyan, who was forcibly displaced from the occupied Republic of Artsakh told in the framework of “Artsakh: Armenian Genocide 2023. Stories of Survivors” documentary project of Iravaban.net that he said that she knew if Shushi was taken, then Stepanakert would be taken as well taken.
She remembers that on 19 September, when the enemy unleashed another aggression against Artsakh, she was lying in bed.
“My grandson came, Granny! Get up, the Turks are coming. I went out in my clothes, I didn’t take anything with me. I got into the car and came,” our interlocutor said.
Granny Valya often remembered her lost home during the conversation. “It’s a two-storyfull with everything.”
She said that they did not know that the Turk would come and take them out of their homes.
“Do you know how difficult this is? I honestly say this is very difficult. We do not believe that we are in this situation,” Granny Valya says.
She also met the armed militarymen of the enemy on the way to migration.
“The Turks standing, weapons on their backs, one in their hands. So what would we do? We came in tears. We did not see anything good, Turks were everywhere. We did not know that the Turks will take Stepanakert. It did not even think about it. We have been living in Stepanakert since 1960, but we have never seen anything like this. I was surprised when they said the Turks are coming. Where are the Turks coming, what will they do? We did not know that we would get here, I say honestly,” our interlocutor said.
She remembers the nine months of the siege with horror.
“The roads were closed, there were people who did not get bread, to eat. There was no candy so that I could have tea with it; we lived hard. How we lived I cannot say, it was so hard. My son brought brown bread. I say: Ararat, where did you get this bread? He says: I found it somehow. That’s how we lived,” Mrs. Valya said.
