On 6 January, RA Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan had a telephone conversation with Administrator of the United States Agency for International Development Samantha Power.

During a telephone conversation, the Armenian Foreign Minister briefed the USAID Administrator on the deteriorating humanitarian situation resulting from Azerbaijan’s blockade of the Lachin Corridor, the only road linking Nagorno-Karabakh with Armenia, since 12 December. Minister Mirzoyan stressed that Azerbaijan’s actions are aimed at subjecting 120,000 Armenians of Artsakh to ethnic cleansing.

Stressing that Azerbaijan is grossly violating the obligations assumed by the trilateral statement of 9 November, 2020, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia noted the importance of clear steps by the international community aimed at restoring the normal functioning of the Lachin corridor and preventing a humanitarian catastrophe.
