Çavuşoğlu: Baku and Yerevan reached an agreement

Azerbaijan and Armenia have agreed on the fundamental points of the peace treaty, it remains to implement them. Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu announced.

“An agreement has been reached on the main points: there were five of them. This includes recognition of each other’s territorial integrity, demarcation of borders, etc. All that remains is to implement them,” Çavuşoğlu said in an interview with TVnet.

Note that the 5 principles include recognition of bilateral sovereignty, territorial integrity, absence of territorial claims, and a legal obligation not to present such claims in the future. The parties also undertake to refrain from threats to security in interstate relations, etc.

According to Çavuşoğlu, the process of normalization of relations between Ankara and Yerevan and the negotiations on the peace treaty between Baku and Yerevan cannot proceed separately from each other.

“We have talked about this many times,” the Turkish Foreign Minister said. To the TV presenter’s question whether this is Turkey’s “red line”, Çavuşoğlu answered positively.

The Turkish Foreign Minister also added that the meeting between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan  and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in Prague was positive.
