Kiev offers to create an Austrian or Swedish version of a demilitarized state in Ukraine

The Austrian or Swedish version of the demilitarized state of Ukraine is currently being discussed, which can be seen as a compromise. Dmitry Peskov, Spokesman for the Russian President told reporters on Wednesday, TASS reports.

Earlier, Russian Presidential Aide Vladimir Medinsky said that Kiev offered to create an Austrian or Swedish version of a demilitarized state in Ukraine. In this regard, journalists asked if the Kremlin was satisfied with this variant of demilitarization.

“This option, which is indeed being discussed now, can be seen as a certain compromise,” Peskov replied.

He expressed confidence that the situation around Ukraine can be improved by reaching agreements at the talks between the Russian and Ukrainian delegations.

It should be reminded that early in the morning of 24 February, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the launch of a special military operation in Ukraine, aimed at ensuring the security of the Donetsk and Luhansk republics, as well as removing the “Nazi regime” in Ukraine.

The United States and the European Union have described Russia’s move as a direct aggression by Russia against Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

The Verkhovna Rada has declared martial law in Ukraine.
