The second round of Russian-Ukrainian talks is over

Vladimir Medinsky, Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation and head of the Russian delegation, called the agreements reached with Ukraine on the results of the second round of talks a significant step forward. In particular, the parties agreed on humanitarian corridors for the population.

“The main issue that has been resolved today is the rescue of people and civilians who have been in the conflict zone, so the parties, the representatives of the Russian Defense Ministry and the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, have agreed on the regime format for humanitarian access to the civilian corridors and the possible temporary cessation of hostilities in the humanitarian corridor during the exodus of civilians. I think this is a significant progress,” the head of the Russian delegation told reporters, TASS News Agency reports.

Medinsky noted that during the talks the parties discussed three issues – military, international humanitarian and the future political settlement of the conflict.

“The positions are quite clear, they are written point by point, for some we managed to come to an understanding. The Russian Federation once again calls on the civilians in this situation to continue using the humanitarian corridors or to do everything possible to end the hostilities if hostilities continue,” Medinsky concluded.

It should be noted that the first Russian-Ukrainian talks took place in Gomel region on 28 February, the meeting lasted five hours. The Russian delegation was headed by Assistant to the President Vladimir Medinsky. He stated that the Russian delegation is ready to negotiate with the Ukrainian side as long as it takes to reach an agreement.

It should be reminded that in the early morning of 24 February, Russian President Vladimir Putin delivered a message announcing the decision to launch a special military operation in Donbas.

“Circumstances require us to take decisive and immediate action. The Donbas People’s Republics have appealed to Russia. I have decided to launch a special military operation in this regard,” Putin said in a televised address to Russian citizens.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that from 5:00 am (7:00 am Yerevan time) on Thursday, the Russian Armed Forces carried out intensive attacks on Ukrainian military facilities and airports.
