The US Embassy in Moscow encourages its citizens to consider leaving Russia immediately while commercial options for leaving remain available. This is stated in a message posted on Sunday on the website of the US Embassy in Russia, TASS reports.
“More airlines are canceling flights to and from Russia, and many countries have closed their airspace to Russian airlines. US citizens should consider leaving Russia immediately through the commercial options currently available,” the text reads.
The Embassy reminded that the US State Department advised its citizens not to travel to Russia.
On 24 February, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in Ukraine in response to the appeal of the leaders of the Donbass republics for help. He stressed that Moscow’s plans do not include the occupation of Ukrainian territories; the goal is the demilitarization and denazification of the country.
In response to Moscow’s decision, the UK was the first to close its airspace for Russian aircraft (on the night of 25 February). Later, a similar decision was approved by the Foreign Ministers of 27 EU countries.
