Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan discussed regional security issues during a private conversation with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili. In that context, they exchanged views on the situation in the RA Syunik region today. Both sides stressed that both Armenia and Georgia are interested in maintaining peace and stability in the region, which is important for the development of cooperation.
Nikol Pashinyan condemned Azerbaijan’s attempts to violate the trilateral statements of 9 November, 2020 and 11 January, 2021.
Nikol Pashinyan and Irakli Gharibashvili referred to the issue of restrictions caused by the coronavirus, exchanged information on the steps taken to eliminate them.
Notably, today the Ministry of Defense issued a statement, which says:
“In the early morning of 12 May, the Azerbaijani armed forces, on the grounds of” adjustment of border”, tried to carry out certain work in one of the border areas of Syunik. After the measures taken by the Armenian subdivisions, the Azerbaijani military stopped that work. Negotiations are underway to resolve the situation.
The information spread in the press “about the battles in the direction of Ishkhanasar does not correspond to reality. In case of such developments, the Ministry of Defense would have been be the first to make a statement. We urge to refrain from publishing unverified, especially panic-spreading information.”
