The Turkish Defense Ministry used the word “genocide” on its Twitter page in response to the Latvian parliament’s adoption of a declaration recognizing the Armenian Genocide, and then deleted the post a few minutes later. The Greek City Times website reported publishing a screenshot of the Turkish Defense Ministry’s Twitter post.
“We reject and do not recognize the Latvian parliament’s decision on the genocide,” the Turkish Defense Ministry tweeted.
The Greek City Times notes that this is perhaps one of the first time Ankara has used the term “genocide”, something it usually ardently avoids, and especially unusual since it came from the Turkish Defence Ministry.
