Russia’s ambassador to the UN Vasily Nebenzyan rejected claims that Russia and Turkey support different sides of the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh. TASS reported.
“Yes, Turkey unequivocally supports Azerbaijan. We know this. But this does not mean that we are on the other side, supporting Armenia against Azerbaijan. This is not so. We support a fair settlement, we support a ceasefire, and we support a cessation of hostilities,”
According to him, “Moscow does not yet see readiness for dialogue on the part of Armenia and Azerbaijan,” and expressed hope that the statement by the leaders of the Minsk Group co-chairing states (Russia, USA, France) will affect the parties to the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh. “
“The conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh causes us serious concerns. Not because it is very close to our borders, but mainly because both Armenia and Azerbaijan are not foreign countries. These are not foreign peoples,” Nebenzya said. “We have special relations with both countries,” he stressed.
“We want both states to stop this escalation,” Nebenzya added.
