On 27 February, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia hosted a meeting on the prevention of the coronavirus epidemic with the participation of ambassadors accredited in Armenia. Deputy Foreign Minister Avet Adonts, RA Minister of Health Arsen Torosyan and Deputy Minister Lena Nanushyan were present at the meeting.

Minister Torosyan in his speech presented the steps undertaken by the Armenian authorities to prevent the spread of the virus in the case of detection of the disease at the border crossings with passengers arriving in Armenia.

At the end of the Minister’s speech, the Ambassadors asked Arsen Torosyan questions about the steps being taken.

Chinese Ambassador to Armenia Mr. Tian Erlong also spoke at the meeting, presenting the latest statistics on the epidemic in his country, noting that the number of people recovering is growing day by day and Chinese authorities expect the virus to stop spreading this spring.

Italian Ambassador to Armenia Mr. Vincenzo Del Monaco presented information on the epidemic in Italy, noting that the number of infected in the country exceeded 400, but in both quantitative and territorial terms the statistics are insignificant and do not exceed tenths of a percent.

Mr. Shombi Sharp, the UN Resident Coordinator for the Republic of Armenia, informed about the steps taken by the organization.

The results of the meeting were summarized by the Minister of Health, and Avet Adonts announced that such meetings with the participation of diplomatic missions would be organized on a regular basis as needed.
